Now easier to leave a comment ... I think !

Hi all
I've just changed one of the settings on the blog, which should in theory allow you to leave a comment without logging on. Can people let me know if it works?? (I have skills - but they are not in computers!!) Janice xx

Our resident racing pigeons ...

Adrian kindly sent in the following photos, including Roy Wilson (72) and Ameilia (47) helping loading up for a race. They really are beautiful birds. We are lucky to have someone on our allotments that is keeping such a Yorkshire tradition and skill thriving. (and if anyone is worried about their plants ... it won't be these pigeons taking a nibble as they get their breakfast, lunch and dinner supplied by Roy!! :D)

1st Come 1st Served ...

... one bath !! If you need a very large plant pot or water container this is ideal. If you want to be the lucky one to get it - go to the back garden of No. 11 Francis Street and it is waiting there to be collected. Janice xx

The good, the bad and the ugly ?

Actually, that is not fair.

None of them is remotely bad.

They are all good mates to their allotment neighbours.

However, without a shadow of a doubt, they are definitely ugly!

How do people feel about having a Sunflower ...

... or pumkin competition???

Let us know if you want one - it could be a bit of fun for all. Do we want it just for kids ... or all allotmenteers? Do we do it on height, girth or weight ?? Ideas and comments please :) xx

A special mention for the Birthday Boy

Dosn't he look good for 60!!

How funky are these girls!

One tries to be organic; yeah, yeah - I eat brown rice and lentils and wear sandals, so what!

Back to the point. Apart from pigeons (watch this space!) my chief problem is slugs and snails. I won't use chemicals so what to do?

Enter Bev and Neil's chickens - they love all the titbits I collect up whilst working the plot. Result for all parties (apart from the slugs and snails that is!). Bev tells me they are getting some Light Sussex's ( southerners, huh!). My question is - will they eat caterpillars? The current lot don't - Neil and I tried last year but they didn't go down well. Back to the drawing board on this one!
